Discover the Magic

Welcome to Emalahleni

Your partner in tourism, transport, destination design and management, events management, catering, and boat cruises.

eMalahleni Boat Cruise & Events and Safari Destinations Africa are both a tourism initiative and brainchild of the managing director, Leon Ngwenya. Leon is passionate about his hometown eMalahleni and wants to see that eMalahleni will be recognized as a sought after tourism destination in the near future.

The Cultural Heartland

As a gateway to the Mpumalanga Lowveld, Pretoria and Johannesburg, eMalahleni will bring justice to the provincial theme, “Beyond wildlife”. The region is known as the Cultural Heartland and with the cultural diversity which was due to the influx of different cultural and ethnic groups entering the workforce of Eskom and the surrounding mines.

EMalahleni Boat Cruise and events are part of the heart of the Cultural Heartland for a reason. Come and discover the rich culture, especially the Ndebele culture with its unique colourful mural paintings and decorations.

Guests can do a township tour on its own where they will learn more about the township people’s culture, lifestyle, history, hopes and dreams. During the tour guests will be able to interact with the locals while having a drink at one of the pubs (tavern), visiting Church street which is very relevant because there are at least fifteen churches in this one street over and above the others in the township.

Walk into an original house/rondavel which is over a 100 years old, meet the family who lived in the house for different generations. The Township tour lasts about 2 hours and incorporates cultural entertainment, traditional music, see how the locals live, visit a local market where you can buy some of the colourful Ndebele arts and crafts, visit a memorial site where you can see all the names of the township people who paid with their lives during apartheid. On special arrangement, your tour guide can even take you to pay a visit to a real traditional healer.

For those tourists who are passionate about the elderly, a visit to the old age home may also be added to the township tour. The elderly get together weekly where they practice different crafts and art which is for sale to the public.

The traditional culture part of the tour takes place at the Duvha Cultural Village. A knowledgeable guide will take guests through the village which consists of different huts/rondavels/houses representing the different culture groups such as Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho, Ndebele, Shangaan, Venda, and Boere/Voortrekkers to name a few. As an added extra, the multicultural village tour can be arranged to cover a traditional meal, where guests can taste some different traditional dishes.
